Religion is boring isn’t it:

This is often the reaction we receive. This perception of religion is common place - difficult sermons to understand, hours of praying, boring activities, mindless or blind following etc. This stereotyping of religion activity is typical and in most situation possibly justified.

Srila Prabhupada, the founder acharya (guru) of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, was once asked by a reporter about the purpose of life. His quick reply was; “The purpose of life is to enjoy!”

This sums up the Hare Krishna movement. It is fun to practice Krishna Consciousness. You may argue that I am biased and possibly I am, but judge for yourself:

As for the festivals what can be said. Take the time to come and see the different festivals we enjoy on a weekly basis, if not more.

Of course the aim of all this fun is to realise and understand the Lord and relationship with Him. No religion can define this relationship because each one of us has a different and unique relationship with the Lord. The aim of the Hare Krishna movement is to enable each of us to try to understand and develop that eternal connection (which is at the moment only temporarily lost, while we are in this temporary world). By claming that Krishna consciousness is fun am I minimising the effort required to achieve God realisation? Perhaps. However, the Lord via His activities shows us that His unlimited qualities include the wonderful interaction He has with His devotees. These pastimes are full of great enjoyment and pleasure for both the Lord and His devotees. Anyway if you do not believe that performing devotional service is fun, try it for yourself. Come and join in the festivities. You know where we are!
